What do the symbols on the care labels of garments mean

My symbols page shows the symbols and what they mean.

Dyeing

Do you do dyeing?

I am often asked this question and the simple answer is no.
My opinion is that dyeing is risky. It is difficult to predict how well a fabric will accept a new dye, so colour cannot be guaranteed.
Many items require that the original colour is stripped out before recolouring, this can weaken or age the fabric.
There are few companies that specialise in dyeing so this pushes the price up.
If you still want a garment dyed best speak to the experts- Chalfont Dyers 020-7935 7316

Buttons

I brought my garment in for dry cleaning but now it has no buttons

Lots of things can happen to buttons during normal dry cleaning, they can break, they can dissolve, they can tarnish, they can melt, they can simply fall off.
The Greenearth dry cleaning process can help prevent most of the problems with buttons.
They are unlikely to tarnish or dissolve and melting would only be caused if there was a serious problem with the dry cleaning machine.
There is little that can be done to prevent buttons falling off unless it is clear that they are not secure to start with.

The only way to ensure that buttons are not lost or broken is to remove them all before dry cleaning.

Zips

The zips on my trousers always break when I get them dry cleaned.

Often after normal dry cleaning nylon zips are very stiff and dry. However they are rarely broken until somebody attempts to force them up or down.
Zips should not be a problem when cleaned by a Greenearth drycleaners, however if you live too far away to bring your clothes to Ben's and cannot find another Greenearth cleaner near you, a good dry cleaner will lubricate the zip for you.
If you don't have time to return your garment, try a little WD40 or 3 in 1 oil before you attempt to force the zip open.

Always check your zip before leaving the dry cleaners, and never force them.

Hems

The hems on all my trousers/ skirts/ dresses are always falling down.

Many garments that have been hemmed up using a felling machine come undone very easily. I don't know of any way that this can be prevented. Here at Ben's I am happy to wundaweb a hem if I believe it has fallen down during cleaning, regardless of fault.
